Lesson body

Travel language keeps people safe and respectful. Directions and place words—left, right, near, far, town, road, home—help you follow hospitality without demanding English from every helper. Asking for help on the road should sound grateful, not entitled. Practise short requests: Please, where is ___?, I am looking for ___, Thank you for your help.

Safety and courtesy while travelling belong inside the language lesson because words without wisdom endanger learners. Share your route with a trusted contact. Use formal introductions when meeting family. Avoid displaying wealth. Ask before photographing people or sacred/community spaces. If you do not understand an answer, ask again politely or switch to a shared language without shaming the helper.

Practice map task: describe a path from a bus park to a family compound in English first; then insert verified Temne place phrases where you have them. Keep unfinished lines marked clearly rather than filling gaps with invented Temne.

Night-sky reminder: arriving well is part of unity. A polite traveller becomes a bridge; a careless traveller becomes a warning story.
