Lesson 6.5
Teaching-point outline
- Speaking (even imperfectly) as bridge
- Teaching children words and stories
- Journal: “What Temne means in my life now”
Lesson body
Language is not only grammar; it is a handshake with belonging. Speaking—even imperfectly—signals that you value the world that shaped your people. Silence from shame teaches children that Temne is lesser. Imperfect speech taught with joy teaches the opposite. Module 4 gave you drills; this lesson asks for identity courage: use what you have.
Teaching children words and stories can be brief and steady: a greeting at the door, a proverb’s meaning in English until Temne lines are verified, a map on the wall, a call to cousin. If you are a learner without children, teach a peer or your future self through journaling and voice notes.
Assignment prompt
Title: Journal — What Temne means in my life now
Write 400–600 words. Include: (1) where you began this course emotionally; (2) one language habit you will keep; (3) one boundary you will keep (consent, no myths, no extraction); (4) one person or group you will thank or serve; (5) an honest sentence about what is still unknown.
Admin: Complete / incomplete. Honour vulnerability and accuracy. Flag any fabricated Temne words for revision.
