Many hopes remain unfinished: fairer trade terms, stronger public institutions, freedom from predatory debt and from internal predation alike. Holding both truths is adult politics.
Unity literacy rejects two traps. Trap one: nostalgia that pretends independence solved everything. Trap two: cynicism that pretends Africans never built anything worth defending. Shared futures require defending what works, reforming what fails, and refusing outsiders’ monopoly on the diagnosis.
Discuss in your circle: which independence-era promises still guide your community’s hopes? Which need updating for climate, digital economies, and youth demographics? Futures are designed; they are not only remembered.
Carry one question into your next community meeting: Whose dignity expands if we adopt this plan, and whose shrinks? If you cannot answer, slow down. One Africa, One People is a horizon of mutual liberation, not a licence to dominate in the name of togetherness. Accuracy, patience, and service keep the horizon honest.
