Why this matters for Pan-African self-determination
Pan-African cooperation is often framed as summit language. This session framed it as daily practice: keep the phone line open with the neighbour; share intelligence before a crisis blooms; fund African-led peace support with predictability; invest in borderlands so they become corridors of legitimate trade, not corridors of fear.
That is African unity without apology — not waiting for external permission to organise our own security architecture, and not abandoning frameworks we already adopted. Agenda 2063’s aspiration to Silence the Guns only becomes real when good neighbourliness moves from communiqué to habit.
For the continent and the diaspora, the lesson travels well. Sovereignty is protected best when it is shared wisely with those who share our borders, our markets, and our future.
