Today from Lagos: ECOWAS and partners are advancing the National Biometric Identity Card—ENBIC—so West Africans can move across the region with fewer delays and stronger identity assurance. Officials say seven member states have already deployed the card: Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Ghana, Benin, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria. The bloc is working toward mutual acceptance at air, land, and sea borders by December. Obinna Ajugwo of ECOWAS calls ENBIC an enabler of safe, secure, and efficient movement—and a symbol of regional law in action for traders, youth, and border communities.
And from Washington, Ghana’s Speaker Alban Bagbin urges the Ewe diaspora to turn cultural networks into investment platforms—moving beyond remittances toward lasting wealth and opportunity at home.
